Welcome to Vega, Texas – Route 66 Shield Mural
When I pulled into the town of Vega, Texas I was looking forward to packing it in for the day. Based on a cursory glance on my phone, the town didn’t seem to have much going on by way of lodging. So, I pulled into the Day’s Inn with little consideration for anything other than just zoning out and being stationary for a little while. I’d left Clayton, New Mexico early that morning and ping-ponged around to the Oklahoma border, so I was feeling spent.

By the time I showered and got myself together the sun was waving it’s final goodbye for the day. I didn’t feel like getting back on the bike to see if there was anything worthwhile to eat nearby. It happens like that sometimes after a long day in the saddle – you just want to move under your own power. And so I did… right across the street to get chicken nuggets at the Valero gas station convenience store. Glamorous, huh?
Setting off the following morning I made my way downtown to Main street. If you’ve never been to Vega, what you need to know is that ride was about a half a mile from the Day’s Inn to the center of downtown. Vega has about 900 residents, so I think it’s fair to say that it’s a small city.
But while the city itself is small, it is disproportionately big on interesting things to look at. I’d previously shared Hank the Ankylosoraus who is there in town, and there are other things to talk about, but let’s focus on this big glorious Route 66 shield mural!

I mean… come… ON! This thing is perfection.

Your pictures are really good, did you get a new camera? I used to carry a Sony-RX100 in my jacket at al times, absolutely amazing little thing. Tiny yet ridiculously expensive.
Way cool. Hey, what are you riding these days?
