Route 66: Leaning Water Tower – Groom, Texas

It wasn’t until I pulled up to the leaning water tower in Groom, Texas that I really understood that the lean is really pronounced from certain angles. Depending on how you approach it, your reaction might range from, “ok, sure, it’s tipped a little” to “damn, somebody is getting fired.”

Thinking about this tipsy water tower a little deeper, it feels like a metaphor for life. Depending on someone’s point of view, it looks like Hey! You’ve got it pretty much together! Meanwhile, if they just shift their perspective a little… you’re actually hanging on by your fingernails.

Hi Rachel, interesting photos in this post. I went on Google Street View to “ride” down that road you were on to view how the angle of the water tower would change, very unusual. And of course my googling fingers had to find out why this tower is leaning, an interesting story in itself.
