The Daily Review Building – Towanda, Pennsylvania

In the late summer of 2023, I found myself passing through the Pennsylvania town of Towanda on Route 6. On the north end of town, not far from the lovely former Red Rose Diner is a building which caught my eye. It is the building which houses the local Daily Review newspaper.

While I can’t make any comments about the actual goings on or output from the Daily Review, I can say that seeing this building in it’s current state, looking through the windows in the early morning light, set my imagination alight. It isn’t uncommon for me to find myself wrapped up in imagined fantasies about the life that exists in a place as I’m passing through.

When it comes to newspapers, magazines, and journalism in general, I do have romantic ideas about what it is like to do this work. Something about looking in this window of this not-so-glamorous office drew me in. Can you imagine all of the investigative scoops, the mysteries solved, the fantastic human interest stories that get churned out by a paper established in 1879?

Rachael, a fantastic post and photos. This post brought back memories for me. I worked on our school magazine while in college, writing articles, taking photos and doing cartoons. Nothing big like the Towanda Daily News though. I was also editor of our magazine for a motorcycle club I was in back in Florida, I did writing, taking photos, and doing cartoons also. And for a magazine for a Macintosh computer organization I use to belong, I did software reviews. But all that was when I was a much younger man. Anyway, I sure enjoyed this post of yours.

Hi Lowell – Well, this little glimpse into your life helps to shape a better idea of who the man behind the blog comments is! It seems like helming a blog of your own would be a natural fit. I’m surprised you aren’t authoring one yourself 🙂

Hi again Rachel. I like following other folks’ blogs (and reading Kindle books) but my life is too boring to put into a blog. I have documented most of my motorcycle rides into Google Photos albums and a few of my rides into sort of a journal on the Google Blogger platform. I write these journal only for myself (I like to go back and relive these rides), too long and boring for other folks to read. But if you want to take a quick look I’m putting the URL into the Website box although it is not a website. i got my Motorcycle Endorsement in 2014 and started riding, but quit riding when COVID-19 hit, my last ride was in 2019. I haven’t gotten back riding yet, age (I’m 82) may be catching up with me.
