Being Busy Just Isn’t that Glamorous
Hurry, hurry, hurry!
That is the awful, terrible habit that I’ve tried to undo for the last few years. I’m not sure when I picked it up but it is something I suffer from greatly. Really, what good does it do? It just makes chunks of the day a blur. Stupid, really.
While so many of us glamorize how busy we are – we’re often missing out on the greatness of lingering in the presence of beautiful things; things that are sweet and lovely just for the sake of being sweet and lovely.
Do you ever ride around in an area that you’ve been through a million times, maybe even your own town and “discover” something that has hidden in plain sight? What was it that kept it hidden from your gaze, kept your mind from seeing it? Or, what finally woke you up to its presence?
Learn to see. Slow down. Really see what’s there… not what you think should be there.
That is epic. I think you just won the internet.
😆 Wow, that’s all it took?!
I went with my gut reaction, which over time has served me well.
You’re so right — and what you describe is a mental choice. We believe we know what exists in the world so we stop actually looking. Which is a mistake. Nothing is exactly the way it was in the past; paying attention is always rewarded. And slow down, people! As a wise goat once said, relax and eat the flowers. 🙂
You know some pretty smart goats! 😀
PICASSO GARAGE!!!
What a cool find, Fuzz. And yes, it’s a sad commentary on modern life that we have to discipline ourselves to stop and smell the flowers, or as the case may be, stop and sniff the paint…
Okay, maybe stick to the former and resist the latter.
“looks like i picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.” 😆
I thought of you this morning as I shook the last of the almond milk in the container, staring at Bigfoot on my fridge 😀
Huh, no wonder my Spidey-Sense was tingling.
Unfortunately, my Spidey-Sense is pretty useless: It activates only when folks worldwide shake near-empty almond milk containers. 😉
😆
Oh, lawdy. Every mom in America must set that thing off a million times a day! “Who the hell puts the milk back in the fridge with that little left…”
That Picasso-esque garage is a really nice work of art.
Any idea who the owner is? Did you think of ringing the doorbell to find out more?
It just begs so many questions.
We largely see what we expect to see. Magicians have been exploiting that very human limitation for a long time. Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink explores many aspects of how our perceptions work wonders, and how they often deceive us.
there is NO WAY i would ring the bell! That goes waaaaaaay outside of my comfort zone 🙂 I think my photo is geotagged I’ll have to look it up and see if I can find a reference.
The house was also painted – it had some Matisse work on it but was partially obscured by trees and some fencing so didn’t make for pretty pictures without trampling on the lawn.
I’ll have to take a look at Blink, thanks, David 🙂
I often re-visit the same places and also have a habit of re-reading certain books and always see something new. I once heard someone say that when you read a good book the second time, you don’t see something in it you didn’t see before, you see something in yourself that wasn’t there before.
Cool find. I had to LOL at “did you think of ringing the doorbell.” I imagined your eyes opening wide in terror at the thought. No I don’t know you that well, but I know enough.
