In the years prior to the Ramapo M/C taking over the event, it used to say right on the event publicity “If if snows, think nothing of it. We ride anyhow”. I started riding this event in 1975, missing it only 4 times since then, and I have ridden it in blizzards and downpours. Back in the day, there were no “Adventure Touring” bikes, and the event favored light, simple bikes that would not scatter expensive tupperware if dropped. Hell, I fell down 7 times one night, without a scratch to myself or my IT175! That night, 28 started and only 3 of us finished! Back then, the event was run in 3 legs, and frequently used the high crown dirt roads around the Croton Dam, which were often unplowed. Try maintaining 30MPH in those conditions!

I did all the prep to my 1965 Honda 305 Scrambler last night, including a really trick odo/speedo/stopwatch computer. No, I won’t be using it as a TSD comparator, which would be cheating. I will be delaying my departure from New Hampshire until Saturday morning, so I don’t waste a trip just to find out it’s been cancelled. Ride safe(ly). Bob B

Wow, is it that time of year again already? Where did that last year go?

I know this is like moto-blasphemy but have you thought of trailering the Tiger the 75 miles? Just a thought. You could even convince someone to drive you and the trailer home after so you could nap – that is if you weren’t too amped up to sleep.

Fingers are crossed the weather changes. Oh heck, I’ll cross my eyes too.

I got the call tonight at 6:07pm from Dick Roberts, the Ramapo M/C Road Captain for the Midnight Run. Due to the impending bad weather, this years event has been cancelled. :>( Ramapo HotLine: 914-422-1806

I’m glad I went snowboarding tonight, and I guess I can take the windshield and super trick enduro computer off my 305 Scrambler. No wait; I’ll leave the computer on for the Moto Giro in May!

      Thanks, Bob-
I got an email from Dick. I hope he isn’t too hard on himself. I know it must be a lot of pressure to make everyone happy.

      Better safe than sorry!

      • Bob B says:

Ya, Dick sounded really frustrated by the whole thing, and rightfully so. I know the amount of time and effort he puts into this event, and the weather is totally unpredictable or controllable.

I took my K100RT/EML rig for a 2 hour joyride(aren’t they all?) today, and was actually overdressed, and getting uncomfortably warm.Removing my fleece and turning off the heated grips made me happier. After a night of snowboarding, I could feel it in my calves on the frostheaves. I got home just before dark, and pulled into my garage as the flurries were just starting. Bob B
