Just Me and My Gigantic Noggin. And Dinosaurs.

Just Me and My Gigantic Noggin. And Dinosaurs.

Lately, I’ve been riding around everywhere with my GoPro on a stick in photo-mode. I love being able to extend the stick to get a point of view that you could never get with a handheld camera. I also love the slight fisheye curve that the GoPro will capture.

When I was sitting at the beach over the weekend the camera was snapping away at 5-second intervals. It pulled this shot of what can only be described as my ENORMOUS head.

my enormous head

At first I thought maybe that it was just the fisheye-ness of the GoPro that made my noggin look so huge.

But then, when I see this dinosaur that I snapped at a similar angle – its head doesn’t look disproportionately large:

And these dinos? They look pretty normal. You know, for dinosaurs.

‘Mabel, did you see the gigantic head on that broad?’

‘Sure did, Blanche! That thing probably has it’s own weather system!’

It’s really kind of amazing I can manage to hold this thing up in the wind.

Sunday Ride: Soaking up the Autumn Light at the Beach

Sunday Ride: Soaking up the Autumn Light at the Beach

There is something especially beautiful about the morning light at this time of the year. I don’t know if it is the colors that get reflected from the trees and grass, the suns position in the sky or maybe it’s some special pixie dust on the air. It’s like a gift, but one you trade the warm weather for.

This morning, I hopped on the Tiger to head out towards the beach. Sometimes I just need to be near the water.

Though it is a pin straight road, I find something about Ocean Parkway so wonderful and relaxing. Riding along next to the reeds, the dunes, the ocean is just perfect.

I came from the western end of Ocean and rode its length out to Captree Park on the eastern side. There were no other cars, it was just me and my motorcycle thump… thump… thumping across the splits in the roadway pavement.

There was no one else around when I pulled in and parked my bike at Captree. I walked over to a picnic table to take in the view. Most of the time when I go to the water I do nothing more than just to sit there, listening, watching sun glinting on the ripples of the surface.

The sun was so strong and the air so cool, I laid back on the table and closed my eyes. Doing nothing is sometimes the best thing to do.

Did you get out for a Sunday Ride today?

Super-Extendo GoPro on a Stick Kicks Ass

Super-Extendo GoPro on a Stick Kicks Ass

Right before I left for The Void Rally, I picked up a new GoPro Hero 3+ Black edition. The 3+ is a pretty big improvement over my old Heros. The photo quality is great, it’s smaller than the old unit, has a remote and a light on the back showing its running (yay!) .

xshot camera extenderBut my favorite part? I also picked up a telescoping extender arm from XShot.

We’ve all been there, right? You’re alone and want to capture a photo of yourself someplace but you don’t have a tripod, no timer on your camera, the old arm-out-selfie doesn’t capture enough of the view, or maybe it’s raining and your camera isn’t waterproof. Enter the GoPro on a stick!

I’m so crazy about it! It is the best $20ish bucks I’ve spent in some time.

There are about eleventy billion different extenders to choose from. The one criteria I used to pick one was to make sure that it collapsed small enough to fit into my tankbag.

Now with my new super-extendo stick, I actually carry my GoPro around in my purse all the time. I’ve been using on walks, while riding my bicycle and when I’m just out and about.

I’m in love 🙂
