NEW: Yarn-Bombed Tree on Long Island (2019)

There’s a new yarn-bombed tree on Long Island!

The gorgeous crochet-covered tree is on the grounds of the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook. It joins several other yarn-bombed trees on the campus.

While I encourage supporting the museum, it is visible without entering.

Between the pattern, the coverage, and the vibrancy of the colors, this tree is a real showstopper!

“We’re very excited to announce that artist Carol Hummel, designer of the crocheted trees is returning to the museum this year to freshen up some of the existing trees and create a whole new design for an additional tree!”

There are 5 yarnbombed trees at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook. Talk about Instagram-worthy!

Made up of over 250,000 feet of fabric cord, over 200 people volunteered their time to complete this project.

The colorful swirls on the tree coats in concert with the spindly tree limbs look like wild undersea creatures. The largest tree, resembling a psychedelic octopus.

Without any know-how in the crochet department, I wasn’t able to understand how yarnbombs work. How do they all join together? They’re so amazing.

I thought there would be an obvious “seam” or something like that. But my untrained eye didn’t pick up on anything. That only adds to my amazement.

These yarnbombed trees look like they were done with great care. As Spongebob would say – “a sweater with love in the stitches.”
