Two KTMs and the Grand Canyon

Two KTMs and the Grand Canyon

“Babe. Chris asked me to go do that Grand Canyon dirtbike thing with him.”
“Okay. You should do it! When is it?”
“Tuesday.”
“Oh.”
“We’re driving out.”
“Really?”
…..

And just like that, with a few days notice my husband Kenny loaded two dirtbikes in the back of his pickup and drove from Long Island to the edge of California. See? I’m not the only one around here who impulsively heads off galavanting.

In two days time, Kenny and his friend Chris were in Moab, Utah where they spent a day riding. The following morning, they reloaded their bikes in the truck and were off to Primm, Nevada. That’s where they ditched the truck and set off across the desert to Bar 10 Ranch to begin the Grand Canyon leg of their trip.

The pictures Kenny sent of the rugged desolation were so beautiful. Here are a few:

Everything You’ve Heard to the Contrary is a Lie – Size Matters

Two weeks ago, my little Husky got some much needed lovin’ thanks to my one man pit crew. It’s really a nice service, you should try it. All you have to do is marry some dude that loves motorcycles too and stuff just shows up in the garage. He’s like the Tooth Fairy but for motorcycles. (And will also probably smother me with a pillow for calling him a fairy.)

New beefy hoops replaced the old shagged out knobblies.

And… TA DA! I have a new seat. Now to the untrained eye this seat probably looks just like the old seat. But, this seat is a magic seat. It is full of kittens and rainbows and doesn’t cut into your bum the way the stocker did. The result? Your ass is not on fire after 50 miles.

Aside from making a world of difference comfort-wise this little number has bought me about 3/4 of an inch in height. When you’re barely able to touch the ground with both feet at the same time, that’s huge.

Though my wee Husky is already lowered an inch with a Koubalink, generally speaking I kind of have to shift one foot to the other for solid footing. But I’ve found that I don’t have to shift quite as much now. I can get my toes on the ground with one foot and kinda tippy toe with the other for stability. Size matters!

Motorcycle Kids – They Grow Up So Fast

Motorcycle Kids – They Grow Up So Fast

In my mind it was just yesterday that my husband Kenny and I were wheeling the little KLX110 in to the living room to surprise Chloe for her birthday. She was home from school, sick with a fever and feeling miserable. What a terrible way for a kid to spend their special day.

But, as sick as she was – she managed to muster some excitement 🙂

Watching Chloe learn to ride gave me so much joy. I’ve said it before but, watching your child triumph is one of the greatest gifts EVER.

Our little girl – well, she isn’t so little anymore. When I stand next to her now, she looks me in the eye without even looking up. I’m pretty sure that she went to bed one night and just… grew up.

Chloe recently said goodbye to her little KLX. It went on to a new home to start the riding life of another young lady. I hope it’s new owner loves it as much as we did. Happy trails, little one.

Now we start the bike shopping process all over again. This time though, Chloe will have an active role instead of being surprised. I’m pretty excited about that.

In the blink of an eye, we start a new chapter.

Day 17: A Love Affair Years In The Making – #29in29

While looking through old photos for yesterday’s #29in29 post I found some old photos of Chloe. By the look of things, she’s had her eye on the little green KLX for some time! 🙂

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that her favorite color is green.

It’s that time of year when the shadows start to get long early in the day.

This photo was snapped on the GoPro when Chloe and I were out riding our dirt bikes. Just my girl and me… and our shadows.
