Muffler Man: Waving Big Indian Brave – Parkersburg, WV

Over the last 20 years, I’ve logged a few miles roadtripping east of the Mississippi River. In all that time, somehow though I knew of its existence, I’d never stopped to visit the Muffler Man Indian in Parkersburg, West Virginia. That is, until October of 2024.

The brave’s pants cover his boots, or maybe they’re just shoes, I don’t know. Apparently there are generally two basic variants of the muffler man pants – over the boots or shoes which is the “standard” style or pants tucked in to boots – which is most commonly the Bunyan style.
That said, there are also some muffler men who are doing their own sartorial thing. For example, one of the Flagstaff, Arizona Bunyan muffler men has “standard” pants.

What’s Interesting about this Muffler Man?
These are some of the things I noticed about this guy, specifically:
Some previous photos on places like RoadsideAmerica.com show well defined nipples on the shirtless brave. My pics don’t. Maybe it was bad lighting? Maybe the weather filed his nippies off? We may need an outside confirmation on the state of his pecks.
- No nipples?
- Defined nostrils
- Defined irises in his eyes
- His pants have pockets
It cracks me up how Google Maps has obscured this gentleman’s face to protect his identity:
