Maiden Rexall Neon Sign – Williamsburg, Kentucky

One of my favorite parts of roadtripping is seeing something unexpectedly wonderful. That was the case with Maiden Drug Company’s Rexall facade in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

While I was on my Christmas-time break, I took a drive north into Kentucky for a look at a old theater that’d seen a photo of. When I parked and walked through town, I saw this lovely vintage Rexall sign and accompanying blue and orange panels on the storefront. I believe those glass panels on the lower part of the storefront are called vitrolite, but please correct me if I’m mistaken!

Seeing one of these survivors is always a treat for me.

Here in the Nanuet NY area, we did not have an Arby’s but we had its competitor…Roy Rogers…also noted for its steamed roast beef sandwiches…it closed in 2012. There was one in Memphis, now closed, but many of Roy’s distinctive buildings still remain.
