Tuxedo Tobacco Ghost Sign – Lafollette, Tennessee
Get a load of this ghost sign, huh? Tuxedo Tobacco is a new to me brand. This is the first time I’ve encountered it. As best as I can tell from searching around is that it was an American Tobacco Company brand that was marketed between 1913-1926.
Their eye catching green tins featured a tuxedoed gentleman holding a pair of gloves and a coat on his arm and the text:
Fresh Tuxedo Tobacco
Specially Prepared for Pipe or Cigarette
The American Tobacco Company
Very fancy, indeed.
After seeing pics of their tins and advertising online, I have wondered if the very faded part of the ad on the left with the circle was once an image of a tin with the tuxedo gent.
The ghost sign shares a wall with The Royal Lunch (who claim to have The Worlds Best Hotdogs, says so right on the door!) in Lafollette, Tennessee.
