A Gorgeous Coca-Cola Ghost Sign in York, Pennsylvania
I’m pretty sure I became aware of this ghost sign in York, Pennsylvania from reading Wendyvee’s great blog, Roadside Wonders. It’s been pinned on my Google Map for years.
When I pulled up to take pictures, a man across the street stood and watched me with a big smile on. I wonder if people who live with such things day in, day out, even notice them anymore. Or, do they become a source of neighborhood pride? Probably both.

There are almost daily shooting in parts of York for some reason, keep an eye on your bike and yourself.
Really? That sucks. It didn’t seem like a terrible area but i guess it all depends on where you go. It seems like there might be a lot of interesting nooks and crannies around the city.
Maybe stick to the nooks and avoid the crannies. There’s a lot of very cool street art including the tin man if you explore. You’re probably fairly safe during the day. http://www.downtownyorkpa.com/publicart/
Awesome, thanks for the link! I saw the tin man on my way to the coca-cola sign. And the gear garden, too. I liked that 🙂
Looking at your pictures it reminds me of my trip to Centralia. The towns along route 54 leading to Centralia are all old mining towns. Tremendously run down and sad…. and then smack in the middle of it all, a brand new McDonalds.
In my experience, old towns along railroad tracks/stops have interesting artifacts of days gone by in them. Good for poking around.
I enjoy viewing your photos and reading about your trips
Wow that’s a great building, fantastic character. It reminds me of the old shop fronts in pretty much any 19th Century street here in England. Often these sorts of things over here are protected by Law so they can’t easily be lost or stripped of their period features. However, we’re suffering a bit these days as many small businesses typically occupying old shop buildings like that are going down the pan, so they become vacant and start to decline. It’s the history those signs you capture represent which I like. Especially as things have changed so much since they were originally painted. Its so nice that you get out there and experience them, and of course you then get the atmosphere of the place such as an old post office or gas station, which is hard to get from a photo.
Thanks for sharing these with us 🙂
I always tell people… in York… keep an eye out on streets named after royalty. Duke, King, Princess…
