Coudersport, Pennsylvania – Meeting Old Hickory

When I took a turn through Coudersport, Pa. there was a derelict house right on Main Street that was such an arresting sight, I had to go around the block again so that I could stop and snap a photo.

After a little look-see online, the house is apparently referred to as  “Old Hickory” and has a storied past. It has also been a focal point of the community for ages with many people wishing someone would restore the grand dame to her former Italianate glory. Judging by the port-o-sans, construction equipments and a few articles online, that is now underway.

Perhaps I’ll pass through Coudersport again one day and see Old Hickory’s rebirth. Once you’ve been someplace once, it seems easier to do it again.

Wow, what a cool building. We were in Petersburg, VA yesterday, which has seen better days. Lots of cool, old buildings in its Old Town that would be fabulous if given a bit of TLC. It’s expensive to restore and maintain old houses, though. Hopefully Old Hickory will live on.

Did you go to the Ice Mine in Coudersport? I used the sign for a GT bonus last year but it was closed at the time.
