Sunday Ride: Finally a Break in the Winter Weather

Cold February RideOn Sunday morning I woke up to sunshine. As I padded down he hall towards the coffee pot, I got that feeling. You know… that special feeling. The one that says maybe you’ll be able to sneak out for a ride today. And, I did.

With temperatures approaching 40 degrees, the roadways though wet were free of ice and snow. Even with no electrics running on the DRZ, my REV’IT gear is really quite warm. The more I use the Sand jacket and pants, the more I like them. Money well spent.

I putt-putted along, splashing through the puddles along the north shore, stopping near one of the sod farms in Riverhead. The frozen field looked like the tundra. When I took my helmet and gloves off, the wind stung my face and hands as it came whipping across the open plain.

It felt so great to ride. The weeks of snow and ice clogging the roads were a distant memory.

I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that I have another pair of glasses with – get this – TWO lenses! I’m going for the Carrie Donovan look. How am I doing? Fabulous?

Now I just have to work on the helmet hair and the windburned face. One step forward, two steps back.

Good for you! I had the same urge yesterday as the temperature crept upward. I dug the Yamaha out of the snow in my backyard and took it around the neighborhood.

Cute glasses! You should start a fashion-blog. 🙂

As the day wore on I think the temps rose to nearly 50. It would have been criminal to miss that opportunity. Glad you sneaked out, too. I only saw 3 other bikes in about 2 hours time.

Unfortunately, fashion isn’t my strong suit, Ralph. I kind of just wear what I like which usually equates to being unfashionable 😆 But – thank you 🙂

My nose gets red when cold, too. I love your frozen tundra pics. One of the things I look forward to most with the new, lighter, far-more-maneuverable bike is being able to pull over to the side of the road more to get pics. The big, heavy cruiser was too wide, too low, and just too heavy to pull off suddenly on uneven surfaces. Of course, that may drive Hubby nuts. 🙂

Glad you got out! I wanted to but had other plans that day that needed to get done not to mention my bike isn’t finished yet for winter maintenance. Is that pic over by Lewin’s pumpkin farm?

  4. GLantern says:

Yeah it is DeLalio’s but one of Lewin’s pumpkin fields is right there too.

If I ever get my DRZ i’ll have to show you and Kenny some of the trails I know in the area.

I’m happy to see that you’re starting to shy away from being shy. What I mean to say is, I’m happy to see to you posting pics of yourself!

When are we going to the Moma?

    • Fuzzygalore says:

I’m working on it. I know it’s probably stupid but, it’s still kind of scary.
After talking to you guys that night at dinner – I kind of figured – ahhh, fuck it. This is me, for better or for worse.

      I’ll send you a txt in a few~

I’m more then a little jealous. It was almost 50 here today while I was stuck behind my desk.

Spring will be here soon. Spring will be here soon. Spring will be here soon. Spring will be here soon. Spring will be here soon…
