Motorcycle Ice Racing at Lake George, NY
While at the Winter Carnival in Lake George, we had a chance to check out motorcycle and ATV ice racing. Riders of this AMA sanctioned event were from the Electric City Riders.
This was the first time I’d ever seen ice racing in person. It was amazing! Seeing those riders flying around that icy oval was exhilarating. They seemed to defy gravity as they skimmed above the surface sideways. When the powdery snow began to fly, riders mid-pack would enter a turn flying blind in a whiteout. No guts, no glory.

It was a real eye opening experience for me. If you have the opportunity to check out an ice racing event, don’t hesitate – do it!
That! Is AWESOME!
Those riders were great. I was so impressed by them.
OH NO dont let the fishman see this. Did Kenny buy one of these bikes yet?
I could totally see Catfish out there. That’s a perfect event for him since he doesn’t like the heat. 😀
Kenny definitely had the “i wanna try that!” look.
Yeah, I think we were both in the “Man I want to go out there and try that” camp. Those guys were really good, I was totally impressed with their ability to throw those bikes around to their limit. They had a group of little kids who were also out there running in their own bracket with 50-100cc bikes, and THEY were kicking butt. Bill, you would have been in heaven, the majority of bikes out there were Hondas. 🙂

What motor is in that Bultaco tanked bike at the top. It obviously is an MX motor, but I haven’t seen them using the under-slug DG style exhaust like that. Kind of a cool setup.
Hi Evan-
I wish I could tell you but I’m not really sure. The only detail I noticed when standing there was that it was a Kawi sitting in the frame. Here’s a link to the full size photo – perhaps you can make a determination? http://fuzzygalore.smugmug.com/photos/788312055_2po6B-O-2.jpg
