Lost Loves: Fuzzygalore’s 1996 Kawasaki ZX6R

My Firecracker Red 1996 ZX6R was named Cherry Pie. To say that I loved that bike would be the understatement of the century. Unfortunately she met her untimely demise in a tangle with a minivan in 1998.

Photos of a much younger me and Cherry Pie from 1997:

Is this how the 98 ZX6R came about then? You enjoyed the 96 so much you went back to the same color and model only 2 years newer?

I’m sure that must’ve been the case because I don’t remember seriously looking at anything else.

I rode home from Connecticut after that accident, glass from the broken headlamp spraying back on me, cracked up plastics, bent frame. I think i may have cried when I got home and parked my mangled bike. I was fine – but it was totaled and that made me very sad. I saved a piece of the plastic with the ZX6R logo for a long time. It may still be at my mom’s house 😀

I was initially put off by the 98 6R. It took a little while to get used to it’s riding position. The previous model allowed you to sit more “in” the bike. The 98 G model was a totally new design at the time and it felt more perchy by comparison. You were much more on top of the bike. I do remember feeling like the 98 was much more refined all around though – power delivery, brakes, handling were significantly better.

“In” vs. “On” as with the Ducati when compared to the Kawasaki? =D

The only Kawasaki I’ve sat on, before this, was a 2001 ZX-6R but not long enough to make a comparo with the ’98. I really love the bike though…tons of fun!

My first mod was a clear tank protector. WOOT! LOL 😉 A Gerbing lead goes on one night this week…temps are dropping. =(

Those were the days. I see what I think is Mike’s ZX-7 there as well?

    All the best,
    Eric 🙂

    Eric! Hi!

Yeas, that’s Mike’s old 7R. I think that might have been the first day that he had it.

We sure had a lot of fun back then. Young and dumb 🙂

Interesting that you should pop in. I found a couple pics on my photo drive of you on your R6 at the traffic circle. Want me to email ’em to you?
