6 Degrees of the Purple Banana
M o n d a y ,   J u l y   3 1 ,   2 0 0 6

On many occasions, Kenny has looked at me and said.. "What on earth made you think of that?" Okay, so yesterday i grabbed a pic of this church.

When i pulled it off of my camera today, I began thinking about church. And then um, i was thinking about Washington, DC and um, we listened to the Purple Rain Soundtrack in the car on the way home and um, you know how "Let's go Crazy" starts out with "Dearly Beloved.. We are gathered here today to get thru this thing called Life." Which is all church-like and sermon-y, SO..... I started thinking about the movie Purple Rain and that crazy motorcycle Prince rode like a little purple badass in a trenchcoat.

Still with me? Okay, so you see where i'm coming from?
Whew.

What IS that motorcycle?

Apparently it’s a Honda though there appears to be much debate over which one exactly. Silverwing? Honda CM450E? Well, which ever it may be, it sure hasn't stood the "coolness" test of time, for me. I want to love it, because well, admittedly, i love Prince. He's got more funk in his teensy-weensy, assless pants wearing pinky than i have in my whole body even if i were to be reincarnated 3 times over. But i digress...

The most compelling thing to me about this whole Prince motorcycle business is how he rides in those heels. I want to ride in heels, damnit! And a silken, ruffled cravat, too! I want to wear my hair in perfectly coiffed ringlets that barely flutter in the breeze. I too want to pick up a slutty harlot who will ride on the back in a cape and underpants and then throw herself into some industrial waste polluted lake, pink distracting knockers glistening in the setting autumn sun. No... wait..., that's not right. I want to kick ass and take names while wearing deliciously fashionable footwear, to boot. (to boot, get it? Ha.)

Well played little, purple man. Well played, indeed.

Modern Snack Bar - Aquebogue, NY
T h u r s d a y ,   J u l y   2 7 ,   2 0 0 6

Mmmm.. the Modern Snack Bar. Aside from their deliciously kitschy sign, the pie is amazing. Can i get an AMEN for pie?!

Is that not the best sign in town?
So Modern.
So Snack-y.
So Bar-y.

You know, more and more in my "old age" i find that strangers talk more freely to me. Not the crazy people who ask me if its "hot in all that leather" but just, you know, people.  People at the next table in a restaurant. People in a store. Those people. Conversational folks. Its nice. I guess i must be losing that "Please don't speak to me" look i've had for so long. I've always been pretty shy. I guess I feel less shy, less unsure or judged now.

Yesterday out of the corner of my eye, I kept catching a woman watching me eat my chocolate cream pie. As i got up to leave, she had to stop me and say.. "please tell me the pie was worth it." It was, lady. It was worth it.

I think maybe it's time to petition to get pie to be its own food group. Right after we get cheese approved.

Apparently my ISP decided to smoke crack on their lunch hour and cock up the mail. RL - i saw your email msg but it was sucked back out into the ether - I don't personally know of any bike rentals in the NYC area to recommend, sorry :o( Anyone else reading know of any? Comment away!

But - when in the neighborhood if you've got some time to kill stop in and check out the Socrates Sculpture Park in LI City. Its free, its on the water and they have some pretty neat works now and again.

Also - on a sorta bike theme (i know its a stretch) Manducati Resturant, if its still there was excellent!

Oreo Cookies
T u e s d a y ,   J u l y   2 5 ,   2 0 0 6

Last night was one of the coolest temperature nights in what seemed to be 1 meellion years. Kenny and I took a nice leisurely jaunt along the north shore out to Funchos at around 6:30.

I always try to have my camera with me, because, well, life is beautful. Of course it isn't exactly helpful when you whip out the old camera and it has a stone dead battery.

For whatever reason, i find old bulb lighted signs really appealing. Also the tube light signs from like, the late 50s and 60s. You see them on old pharmacies and stuff in small towns that still hang on to the natural quaintness. For whatever reason, i love this stupid Rocky Point Tire sign. I've seen it 186 times and each time i'm all like 'Hey, you should snap a pic of that sign.' So of course, i'm in the right place at the right time.. with a dead camera battery. Photo courtesy of Kenny's Super-Collosus-Braniac-NonBlackberry-Smartypants-Photo-Camera-Computer that fits in your pocket phone-thing.

I'll have to go back with the trusty, low-tech digi Elph. Nerd.

How great is the lettering on the Rocky Point part?
And those tires.. C'mon.
Beautiful.

I feel like eating Oreos now.
