Spring Warm Up Ride
M o n d a y ,   A p r i l   2 3 ,   2 0 0 7

Wow. Wowee-wow-wow. Yesterday was quite arguably the nicest riding weather so far this year. It was just delightful. Kenny & I took a ride to Massachusetts, to stretch our legs a little and prepare our rumps for a road trip. These bums of ours have been too long in their winter slumber. We clicked out about 450 miles yesterday and during the last hour - I could tell. My body wasn't used to it.

We started our day off with breakfast in Cornwall, CT. Coffee and breakfast outside near the covered bridge. I saw a cigarette wrapper dancing on the breeze. Its crinkly, cellophane body rolling and turning as the air swooped up underneath. One day it would no longer dance in the wind tossed away carelessly as garbage. In the meantime, it sparkled and laughed in the sunshine despite what some people thought about it on the surface.

Self-absorbed as I am, it made me think about my own life. I don't have to be beautiful. Or thin. Or anything. I just have to enjoy my time in spite of what others may think about my outsides.

Man, I missed riding.

Welcome spring, I'm so glad you could make it.

Shake the Dust Off
S a t u r d a y ,   M a r c h   3 1 ,   2 0 0 7

Saturday I had a whole day all to myself. No place to go, no place to be, just me the sunshine and a the desire to kick this spring fever to the curb once and for all.

I left my house around 7 am, heading for points north. Before I left I kissed my still sleeping honey goodbye. He sort of opened his tired eyes and said to me, "why do you look so bundled up, its supposed to be nice today." As I rolled along the Expressway to get off this Island, it was about 39 degrees.

I can't believe I've ridden for so long with no electrics. I used to say, "bah, I don't need electrics." As it turns out... I was wrong. There is a string of ex-boyfriends who probably just got a strange, tingling sensation throughout their bodies as I typed that.

Somewhere near Albany, NY

I have an affinity for kitsch. This ride allowed me to visit, not 1... but TWO Roadside America Attractions in one fell swoop.

Behold....The Hancock, Massachusetts Muffler Man.

I continued on to North Adams, to ride the Mohawk Trail. I've only ridden it twice before, the last time unfortunately it was in pouring rain. I had the roads to myself all day. It was pretty amazing.

My camera has a stitch feature, but damned if I know how to turn that on, so you get what you get

Still lots of snow and ice around upper NY state and Mass.
This was my turnaround spot. Time to head back to the Isle of Long.

I wave to the Big Indian and set a course for home...

I arrived back home around 6:30 pm, feeling pretty tired from the wind and the cold. That being said, it just felt so good to be able to get out, shake the dust off and put some miles on.

Peg Perego Ducati Monster Toy
M o n d a y ,   M a r c h   5 ,   2 0 0 7

While we were out and about on Saturday, I ran across the Peg Perego ride-on Ducati Monster toy. To say I was excited would be an understatement. A sportbike ride-on toy! How awesome!

I was looking around on the web today to get info on it, so i visited the Peg Perego website. Sadly according to their advertising copy, Peg Perego thinks only boys would only be interested in a Ducati. Peg Perego Ducati Monster Toy - Link Girls like Vespas, boys like Ducatis. WTF? How about just marketing it for children instead of perpetuating an antiquated sexist ideal for either item- the Vespa or the Ducati?

Boo to you, Peg Perego.
