Buzz’s Skelly Gas Station – Coen Brothers / Timberlake Filming Location?

The Coen Brother’s are currently shooting a movie called Inside Llewyn Davis staring Justin Timberlake. Some of the scenes are set to shoot here on Long Island in the town of Riverhead.

While out riding today, after an off-handed comment by GLantern about an old gas station – I thought I would go take a look. I mean, I love that sort of Americana.

But when I got there, what I saw was too “perfect” to just be something a local was putting up for their own enjoyment. Then it dawned on me…

It must be part of the Coen Brothers movie set. The station doesn’t really exist. It’s on one of the roads set to be closed and well, you can see it’s a false front if you look to the side of the building.

I thought that was a pretty cool find.

Day 21: Serendipity Strikes… And Has Giant Sexy Legs – #29in29

As you motor along through life – each turn, each second that ticks by shapes what will come next. I am of the belief that every step, every decision, every left or right brings you to where you are supposed to be.

While enjoying our extra day off on Monday, Kenny and I rode through the town on Sag Harbor on our way to Montauk. For some unknown reason, I took a different route out of town than I normally use.

I can only imagine it was the magnetic pull of these giant legs made by artist Larry Rivers. I guess we were supposed to see them :)

“Of course you found a pair of big legs.”

Day 12: Ye Olde Long Island – #29in29

This winter has really been an excellent one for riding here on Long Island. We haven’t gotten any snow to speak of and the temperatures have been mild.

I feel sad for the folks who have to store their motorcycles for the winter. Hang in there… spring is on the way.

While out enjoying the un-wintery weather this week, my travels took me through the town of East Hampton, which was the first English settlement in New York. I stopped and walked through the cemetery there.

Having seen it several times from across the fence, I wanted to get a closer look at the tomb of Lion Gardiner. Descendants of Lion still own Gardiner’s Island now 400 years later.

The art found in cemeteries can really be beautiful.
