Hitchin’ A Ride on the Funwagon

Over the winter, my hubs Kenny pulled the trigger on getting a RV – a Winnebago View. It’s small in the RV world at just over 25 feet with a single slideout. But it’s got a king bed in the back, fold-out couch, a loft bed over the cab and easily chugs along on a diesel Sprinter chassis. So far it seems to be just right for a family of three plus a dog.

To be honest, I never really saw myself being an RV owner but it sure makes life easy. I grew up tent camping so this is one of those things that feels a little too nice to be mine. You know what I mean?

Kenny spends most of his riding time on a small 2-stroke in places far away from where we live, places he can’t comfortably ride to. And so he’s always hauled his KTM around in the back of our pickup.

Once he gets to where he’s goin’, it’s usually a camping situation. Our friends have always been generous with letting him stay in their toy-haulers, campers or RVs. But this setup means relying on others and that we can’t go as a family juggling kids, dogs, and so on. It seemed to make sense to finally take the leap and go our own way.

The hope is that the RV – or The Harvey as we like to say around here – will give us more opportunities to bring the whole family along on excursions. We shall see…

That is beyond awesome! Makes me love your Hubby even more. Not in a creepy-stalker kind of way. 🙂

I often fantasize about having a little RV. I like to think of it as my gypsy mobile. Every soul who loves to wander should have one. I think you’ll be having lots of amazing adventures. Family adventures. What could be better?

Maybe you all could even drive to Oklahoma.

He’s been a gift in my life. There’s a lot to love. You can love him a little too. I don’t mind 🙂

Do you really think about an RV? I’m kind of surprised how many people are interested. It really wasn’t on my radar. I think for someone such as yourself who works remotely – if you were working remotely from your RV, that might be a really nice mix of work and play.

The whole remote work thing is why I daydream about it more than most. But Mike isn’t a camper. Maybe after he retires in 5.5 years.

Wow!I bought a toy hauler travel trailer, 23 foot, last year. it’s way too big for me and the dog but I can get my quad, my BMW, and anything else I chose in it. It’s awesome to actually go “camping” or “glamping” and not wake up and feel like a 100 year old. And, it’s SO easy and much faster now to actually go anywhere. No more two days of loading the truck, hoping I put packed everything. And then two days unpacking and cleaning everything. No regrets. You’re gonna love it!!!

The ‘not wanting to sleep on the ground anymore’ thing was big for Kenny. If he’s going out to do a physically demanding ride, having a good night sleep helps. And besides, if you work hard – it’s nice to get the things you want.

It sounds like you’ve got an awesome setup there! Do you have any big trips planned?

I’m so jealous!!!! The closest I ever came to a RV is a small pop-up and that was a blessing. My years of tent camping (and there were many of them) are done. 2-3 hours to set up, 2-3 hours to break down. The pop-up reduced that to 30 minutes (including canopies, tables, etc). My wife and I have often dreamed of getting one and as we near retirement it’s really attractive. We’ve been to so many RV shows and it ends up being a “this one is better because we have the Harley and my mountain bike to think about… and the dogs….”

Nice pick!!… but… there’s no room for your bike. What’s up with that?

There are so many choices. I’m glad I wasn’t part of the research process. My input was – which bed style do you like better, A or B? “A” That was it 😆

We have a 2-bike Kendon stand-up trailer or the hitch rail for a single bike 🙂

Welcome to the RV world! We bought a giant RV last year to tow the bikes to all our bucket list roads…but we talk about a Sprinter-based RV all the time, just cause it is so easy. The big one is nice though. 😉
