Daydreaming of Fireflies
Lately I’ve been visited by the idea of fireflies. Like a broken record, the word coupled with the image of a child standing in the grass at dusk comes over and over. She is standing with a jar, holes punched in the lid, looking out into what seems like nothing in particular. Some people can see something where others just see darkness.
Do you remember doing that as a kid? Watching and waiting for a little beacon of light to flash its slow blink? You’d run towards where you last saw it, hoping you were close. Then It would light up again and you’d reach for it.
Carefully cupped in your hand, a little glowing ember walking gently through the forest of lines on your palm – over life, past fate and up to the heart. Curiously you’d watch as the yellow lantern flared.
But you never can hold something so delicate for long. You risk extinguishing the thing that makes it special with your clumsy hands. No, it’s with you for just a short while and then you have to let it fly away. Knowing you got close will have to be enough.
The internet is a deep, sprawling universe. It is as infinite as the thoughts of the people who plug-in and power its content. And yet in the darkness of that huge expanse, there are some people who will emit sparks. Little beacons of light that draw you closer.
You’re definitely an emitter of sparks.
Thanks, KK. <3 (you know i think you’re just being nice, right? 😉 ) 😆
Yes, I know that. But I’m not just being nice.
Oh, and I agree with Gary, too. He hit the nail on the head with his comment.
Love this part:
“But you never can hold something so delicate for long. You risk extinguishing the thing that makes it special with your clumsy hands. No, it’s with you for just a short while and then you have to let it fly away. Knowing you got close will have to be enough.”
I love the imagery of your writing and how it resonates with my spirit regardless of my mood or where I am when I read your blog!
Keep writing and riding!
Gary
Thank you, Gary. I really appreciate you saying so. 🙂
Nice metaphor. Props on the prose.
