Suck It, Winter – Remembering Greener Pastures

This weekend I poured a 40 out for my old kaput iMac and replaced it with a shiny new one. The iMac is dead. Long live the iMac.

We back everything up so the most important things to me (my photos) were safe and sound. They’re now adjusting to their new home and that new computer smell. Does my typing look any different? Newer? Thinner maybe? Just say yes.

Cracking open iPhoto on my new computer meant perusing the library. You know how years of photos can really get out of hand. Periodically, I scan through and clean stuff out but this is a never-ending task. Sometimes it takes emotional distance to be able to jettison pictures.

Outside of dumping some of the dead weight in my photo library, I also came across some photos of good times that I’d forgotten about. Or… just not remembered right away. I like it that way better.

This photo was taken in the spring of 2014 while riding in the Berkshires. It was nice to see what the world looked like when it was green.

Here in the tundra, I haven’t seen grass in what seems like forever. A Himalayan yeti delivers my mail.

While not on the photogenic-side, I must’ve bought this sandwich in a gas station while on that very green ride. This is about as close as I get to photographing my food. I see lots of people on the web who are excited about what they’re eating – excited enough to take a pic and share it. I often think they must be in the fog of hunger because 8 times out of 10, whatever they’re eating looks disgusting from this side of the computer.

This condensation-filmed sandwich is no exception to that rule.

I’m pretty sure I bought this sandwich and photographed it because it shared my correctly spelled name and not because of the oh, so enticing homestyle whitebread. A rare treat for me. (The spelling, not the bread.)

My mom must’ve snickered to herself knowing that I would never find keychains and mugs in souvenir stores with my name spelled “the right way.” Maybe she saved me from a lifetime of hoarding flipflop shaped magnets and tiny license plates. Thanks, Ma.

Now that March has come in like a lion, spitting sleet and more inches of snow I am looking forward to seeing what’s over that next hill when it hopefully goes out like a lamb.

Seriously Fuzz, I totally empathize. I’ve got a new (to me) bike and a stack of parts waiting to be bolted on and it’s trapped in Hampton Bays crying my name. Ready for this mess to end…

What does this mean? “poured a 40 out”
Haven’t heard that phrase before. And, yes, the text looks much, much better sourced from the new iMac. Is it one of the 5K screens?

Oh is that what green grass looks like….LOL
We are experiencing snow and ice and all that yucky stuff in Oklahoma as well.
    So very tired of Winter!!!!
I love that you take pics of your food.
I am sure it was just for the name on it…wink wink!
So ready to be able to ride and write about some fun and funny things that happen along the way.
I know, I know…wishing my life away…but really it is time for some warmer weather.
    Stay warm my friend! 🙂

Oh, damn… By lifting the lid on that magical trunk of fond motorcycling memories while winter’s frozen, fat thumb is still upon us, you might have doomed us all (may the almighty be merciful): Isn’t it possible, Fuzzy, that such ‘Eff you, Old Man Winter!’ behavior could open a wormhole to another dimension?

Sure, it might be a nirvana of endless summers, chockfull of twisties and dirt and dunes and all other manner of rideable terrain. But it could also be a cold and inhospitable waste of forever frost (you know, the kind of place where only the likes of RichardM and Steve Williams and a few others would regularly ride)…

Cue the Zeppelin: (Badum-dja-dja-dja-dja. Badum-dja-dja-dja-dja.) “We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow…”

      “AhhhAHHHHhahhhhhhhh Ahhhhhh!”

We’ve got 6 inches of snow on the way tomorrow. I feel fairly certain that there is nothing at all I can say or do to make things worse. Or better for that matter.

Old man winter… screw that guy. Jerk.

Winter sticks for sure but you’re looks a lot worst than ours. Very little snow in Yorkshire this year. As of yesterday, I was back in my summer gloves. Perhaps even more telling, the back tyre I put on in February is now scrubbed all the way to the edge so spring must be here. Hope you see it soon.
