GoPro Photo: Taking in the Sights on Col de L’Iseran

While I struggle to find the thread that will weave my trip posts together, I go back and look through photos, fondle stickers, shuffle postcards from the places we’d been. This morning I picked through a folder that Kenny dropped onto my Macbook. It was filled with GoPro stills from his point of view.

There are tons and tons of pictures there that bring me right back to the cool mountain air and the undulating roads. But I recognized this spot right away as I rolled through the pics:

This was Kenny’s vantage point after I pulled over to take some photos on the Col de L’Iseran in France – one of my bucket list roads.

I’ll be daydreaming about our ride through there from my desk at work today. Have a great day y’all.

A while back you posted about liking that the GoPro is there just snapping away while you ride…

Through the GoPro pics you share here, I’ve gained a genuine appreciation for those neat, little devices: They are the true candid photographers, recording events as they naturally are, as they really occur. It seems that once someone pulls out a traditional camera, as useful as they are, things immediately begin to feel staged.

I’m seriously considering picking up one of them GoPro thing-a-ma-jigs for myself.

I do love having the GoPro do that. The reality is that I might only like 10% of the photos that I end up with, dumping the rest but the unique ‘see what i see’ point of view adds something to the whole process that I love.

It is interesting going through Kenny’s photos when he lets his GoPro run during the same period. Seeing his point of view from something that we did together also adds a unique dimension for me. It might not translate to other people who were not there – but seeing a photo of yourself taking a photo of someone else… is kinda trippy. Your brain remembers the view from the opposite side and then you get to see that very same view from the subject. I like it 🙂

  3. The downside of the GoPro running is that you end up with a gazillion pics to go through. It would be fun to see your trip through someone else’s GoPro lens, though. But then I’d have twice as many pics to go through. Sigh…

That’s a great pic for daydreaming.
