  1. Not saying its not possible, but I’ve never seen temperatures alone do it, not even the extremes our fighter jets used to encounter. My guess is either moisture hit the hot globe (condensation? leaky gasket?), skin/fingerprint oils on the globe, or simply a “bad bulb” (perhaps allowing the gas to escape). Over-voltage would do it for sure, but I’d think any other bulbs on same circuit would blow up as well. A quick check with a meter would rule that out. I’d probably just put a new bulb in and see what happens.

The other bulb in the lens was fine – which im guessing is on the same circuit. I was kind of surprised to find this one pulverized. Maybe it committed suicide because it hates the Ural?

I popped in a new bulb this morning. ::crosses fingers:: that it was just the bulb itself.

Similar to a $200 toilet seat, I would imagine fighter jets use Mil-Spec bulbs. Unless it’s a Halogen bulb, I would rule out fingerprint oil causing a failure. Uncandescant bulbs just don’t get that hot. Is there any evidence of arcing in the bulb recepticle? You also might wanna check the wiring for pinches, starting at the recepticle, and working your way backwards. Wonky grounds will also cause some odd problems. That’s all I got. Bob B

That’s what that jerk at the bike show was talking about!
I kid!! Weak bulb up against rapid temp change. My GPS gets moisture between the LCD and digitizer every time I leave my garage at 60 Degrees out to a rapid change to 20. one day it will give up on me.
