Dreams Do Come True: Visiting the Haines Shoe House

Shoe House Road SignThere is no rhyme or reason why some things take up residence in your imagination. For years now, I have had a hankering to visit the Haines Shoe House.

Kenny and I passed it once while heading down Route 30 about 5 years ago but never doubled back to visit. Since then, it has been a big boot-shaped ghost in my mind. I’ve been haunted.

Well, baby… I’m happy to report that I have FINALLY set foot inside the big shoe and it was wonderful. ::weeps::

The Haines Shoe House

The fabulous Wendyvee of Roadside Wonders once mentioned something on Twitter to the effect of “they serve ice cream in the heel.” As I took my helmet off and excitedly squealed those words to Kenny, he looked at me like I was an idiot. You’d think I would be used to that by now.

It is worth the trip. Shoe house, I love you!

So glad that you finally were able to visit and that it was open when you did (probably half of the times that I’ve gone were when it was closed).

    It’s truly FAB!

I would o love to see this! I am a shoe addict and nothing makes a girl squeal with delight than a good shoe! I had the same reaction to a giant Ukrainian Easter Egg in Alberta and my hubby wouldn’t stop and I was heartbroken,. He promised me we would go back & didn’t, so I think I am going to plan a trip through the Rockies, park my bike under it and take some pics. On the bucket list, I like schlocky stuff like that. Squee away!!!!

This is so awesome! I love the shoe doghouse. Really ties it all together…:)

  7. You know, I’ve never stopped there either? I know exactly where it is. Growing up in Baltimore, most trips to visit that family up in PA took us past the shoe house. My Dad really likes ice cream and one of his favorite shops — Mack’s — is not far down the road from there. Maybe that’s why we never went to the shoe house, He wouldn’t have been able to justify ice cream at Mack’s and the shoe house. And he would be too bashful to go visit the shoe house “just because”…

I’m glad you’re finally getting out and about to see stuff!
