A Brush With Greatness: Meeting the Wienermobile

Some dreams are gigantic, epic undertakings that take a lifetime to complete if they can ever even be completed. Then there are other dreams that are just simple bits of whimsy. Wishes, if you will.

On the surface those wishes may appear to have a small scope but their impact can bring a smile to your face long after they are realized. That makes those little dreams and wishes just as important as the big ones, in my book.

One of the wishes I’ve long held close to my fuzzy little heart has been to see the Wienermobile up close. Dumb? Probably. But, so what?

Last week – A Dream Realized:

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

The giant hot dog came wheeling onto Long Island and I was there.

Has ever a finer vehicle ever graced the highways and byways of this world? I don’t think so. It seems to emanate happiness from its hotdogginess.

My Wienermobile Swag

The Wienermobiles were hand crafted by Icelandic unicorns. Before the unicorns sent the giant rolling wieners out into the world to bring joy to the masses, they infused them with baby otter farts and cookie dust to give them a little extra sparkle. True story.

Inside the belly of the beast:

Inside the Wienermobile

You can stalk track the Wienermobiles to find out where to have a brush with lunchmeat greatness.

The Wienermobile

The Wienermobile is the grandaddy of all “Greatest Cars in the Universe.”

LOVE IT!

“baby otter farts” now that’s priceless.

When we were in Seattle for the Motorcycle show in December the Weinermobile was staying at the Holiday Inn Express across the street and it was our view from our room balcony.

Just need a little mustard now…

  4. Awesome!

When my son was about 3 or maybe a tad younger, we had a chance to see the Weinermobile live and he could have sung the Bologna song for a spot on the commercial. He choked. Not on the hot dog. I mean, he refused to sing. I was devastated. But at least I got to see the Weinermobile in person! So I totally share your excitement. 🙂

OMG I am so jealous. The science hall where I went to college was named Mayer Hall after Oscar Mayer and I always hoped the Weinermobile would make an appearance.

Wow…I saw 3 tandem Weinermobiles in Times Square once but I’ve never been inside one. Frankly speaking, I’m jealous!

My dad had this cruel little locked case when I was growing up filled with cool old toys: ninja turtles band aids, cool old iron trucks and other goodies I couldn’t touch. My favorite thing in there was always the wienermobile whistle.

The only thing better than the Wienermobile is your joyful attitude about the Wienermobile. Both bring smiles to my face.

It’s a lie! I stalked that mobile on their website, saw one in MN, and rode over there. No mobile. The website lies I tell ya lies! I pulled out my phone and sat and looked at the map showing me right where i was. nothing but road construction, but no mobile.

    glad you found it. 🙂

Yea, we had a similar thing happen. We showed up to a spot it should have been and not only was it not there, but the supermarket wasn’t even open yet. Makes me wonder just how they choose where they’re headed.

    Hey Fuzzy,
I thought you might like A related story about the weinermobile from my life. I grew up in Milwaukee Wi. and my father was a Oscar Meyer salesman. One of his accounts was Milwaukee County Stadium. At some point when I was about 9 yrs old (1970 ?), my dad and I drove to the stadium because he said he had a suprise for me. It was a night Milwaukee Brewers game and we drove up and there was the wienermobile! I was excited just to see it and meet “Little Oscar” (a midget in a chef’s outfit), then my dad told me I would get a ride in it! I thought it would just be in the parking lot, but it turned out I got a ride in it around the warm up track inside the stadium during the seventh inning strech as Little Oscar stood on a platform inside with his upper body out the sunroof ( I dont think the new ones have a sunroof ) and he threw wiener whistles to the drunken crowd who proceeded to fight a bit over them. We watched the rest of the game with the real Oscar Meyer in his box behind 1st base.

It’s a classic memory for me, I hope you like it.

P.s. Just so you know I came to your great site though Alltop

I can’t get the Oscar Mayer Bologna song out of my head now. LOL Fuzzy you are amazing, not sure how many peeps can say they got inside the weenie wagon, or even got weiner swag.

      😆 Thanks, Dar-
The door was open so I figured I’d ask if I could go inside. They were only too happy to let me. I think they must do that regularly because they had a welcome mat on the step 🙂
