Alpinestars Stella Bionic 2 Protection Jacket

Alpinestars Stella Bionic 2Under my dirt jersey, I wear an Alpinestars Stella Bionic 2 Protection Jacket. I’ve had it for 2 years now and have been very happy with it.

All of the stitching, seams and straps have held up, the zippers are intact and none of the mesh has torn. AND best of all… it’s kept my upper body’s boney parts in one piece. knocks wood

When I began searching for protective off-road gear, I went on the premise that it would be best to spend the money up front and buy once. With some gear like jerseys, pants and gloves – you can find all sorts of discounted, last season and cheaper items. But with the hard stuff, I didn’t want to skimp.

With everything I looked at, I kept coming back to wanting all of my protective armor in one shot – full CE back protector, CE armor in the shoulders and elbows & some chest protection instead of just a roost guard and elbow pads. It seemed especially important because I don’t have a whole lotta skill in the dirt department. I’ve already gotten my moneys worth out of the shoulder and elbow armor.

There aren’t too many pressure suit-style choices made specifically for women. On top of that making concessions for my “fluffy” frame narrowed the field even more. The Bionic 2 set up seemed like a no-brainer.

Stella Bionic 2Along with the armor at the back, shoulders and elbows, the jacket has molded plastic boob protectors. Bionic knockers, if you will.

Just this past weekend I discovered that said protectors are also good for honking the horn on my motorcycle. While next to the bike trying to push it and work it out of where I’d dug in a bit – my boob protectors kept hitting the horn button much to the amusement of my darling other half. ::honk::honk:: 😆

I’m sure that the jacket is generally warmer than just a roost guard/chest protector. I know the back protector tends to hold the heat coming off your back close to the body. But, if it’s hot – it’s hot. Sometimes I opt to leave my jersey off to let more air pass over my body and make sure to drink plenty of water.

Aside from the actual protection and amusing boob honking feature, there is the added bonus of feeling like a superhero when I put the A* jacket on. We can all use a little more of that in our lives, can’t we?

Two Fuzzy Thumbs Up for The Alpinestars Stella Bionic 2.

Do you ride off-road? What kind of armor are you wearing?

  1. I wonder if they had Madona in mind when they designed the ‘boob’ protectors. Kind of looks like something Madge would wear. lol

Boob protection….nice. I added Bionic Chest Protectors into the front of my A* 1-piece (replaces the foam inserts), should be able to give that a first go this weekend now that start temps are warm enough for full perf.

What is a roost guard? When I was looking around to weigh options for dirt that was the most prevalent “chest protection” that I could find. Your setup looks great and what I would want for myself.

Gotta keep those cupcakes safe and sound 😆

Chest protect/roost guard – same diff. Its like a vest:
      null
For me it doesn’t offer enough around the shoulder. And then you’d need elbows, too.

Knowing you like a I do – I bet you’d like the Dainese pressure suits. They’d probably be cut nice and slim for your frame, too.

I wear the same A* jacket in the mens version for the same reasons you mentioned. I am awesome at falling down and hitting trees, so I wanted something a bit more substantial than a thin hunk of plastic most roost protectors are made of.

Mine doesn’t honk the horn when I push my bike though. Sad.

I’m a big fan of good armor and long lasting pieces of equipment. I had a 661 Vapor Suit which I got last season that I was REALLY dissapointed in over the course of time. The armor itself was great and protective but it just couldn’t stand up to the wear and tear. Halfway through the season I had two holes near the thumb loops and then by the end of the season the mesh holding the forearm armor tore while taking it off. It was a shame as the fit was great and it felt secure.

Now i’m rocking the super sweet full upper body pressure suit Dainese Wave armor. It’s easy on and easy off, it vents really well so far, and the armor is TOP NOTCH, much more then the 661. It has kidney protection and a small brace for the neck. We all know “I’m OKAY” when i’m wearing this thing. Durability wise it will last i’m sure of it. It has a different style of mesh like a fishnet that stretches instead of the neoprene the 661 had. And it doesn’t get caught when your taking it on and off. It rocks.

I have the same armor! My only complaint about it is that mine is tight in the biceps…though I may have solved that problem lately by being sedentary and losing all muscle tone. 😉 😉

When we were dirt biking in Australia I just wore a thin T-shirt under the armor so I could take the armor off at rest stops if I got too hot. Worked great.
