Reasons to be Thankful? I’ve got ’em in Spades

First and foremost, I am of course thankful for my family, friends and good health. Without these three things nothing else in my life would be possible.

Giving Thanks for Two Wheels

To someone who isn’t immersed in the motorcycle lifestyle, saying that I am thankful for motorcycles might sound ridiculous. But, they have managed to transform my life into something great. Motorcycling has opened up incredible avenues of personal exploration.

I gladly tip my helmet to motorcycles. Without them – I wouldn’t have met my partner in this life, Kenny. Did I ever tell you that the first time we met was on a group motorcycle ride? Of course I was just so ravishingly beautiful, charming and smart – he had to have me. Can you blame him, really?

In other news, Kenny has rued that day ever since. 😆

Just last weekend, I was talking to my friend Nef – who I met because of motorcycles – while grabbing cheesesteaks in Philly. We were discussing what a great equalizer of people motorcycles can be. Your circle of riding friends will transcend age, economic status, race, gender, sexual orientation, geographic borders – and bring you together with a common love of the road. It’s a beautiful thing.

I think that is the thing I am most thankful for when it comes to motorcycles; the people I meet. You, out there. You are the people who share tales from the road of life, who inspire, encourage, who give hope and allow my imagination to wander. Thank you. Thank you, all.

I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving Day with the people you love most.

Sending a hug across the miles,

-R.

I’m thankful for a lot, life is good 😀

I couldn’t agree more though on your thankfulness for motorcycles. You and Nef couldn’t be more correct about how motos bridge all barriers and bring people together from every walk of life, its awesome. Since the first day I got serious about riding I have met such a great mix of people. And every single one has added something to my life and I can call them all good friends. I don’t know where I would be without motos and the people I have met while riding them.

  2. I’m thankful for motorcycles, too. That’s how I “met” you. I wish you and your family a fabulous holiday!

I feel the same way about motorcycles. It’s introduced me to a universe of people of diverse backgrounds. Motorcycle is a common bond and gives us something easy to talk about.

    Happy holiday!

  4. Rachel – I know what you are saying about being thankful for motorcycles. For years I have hung out on the back as a passenger, I enjoyed the ride, but felt disengaged. Being a passenger is not the same as being the one in command of the bike and feeling its zen. I am thankful for my family and their indulgence of letting me discover scootering and then motorcycling. I have done a lot in the last 11 months and have experienced exponential growth as a human being. I have met many wonderful people who don’t roll their eyes when I am blathering away about my last accomplishment or new experience – they get it. (I met my hub when I was 18 and he used to pick me up for dates on his bike)

Prior to motorcycling I didn’t have much in the line of stress release, now I hop on and go get lost somewhere to find a twisty and experience the beauty of really being engaged with the environment around me. You feel apart of your surroundings. I love the summer smells of fresh grass being cut, flowers and trees. In the winter it is the smell of woodsmoke and wet earth. I have learned that I can adapt and accept challenges that come my way. I have to say motorcycling for a newb is a pretty heady experience. I feel euphoric after a ride and it is enough that it changes my outlook. Simply put, I love my motorcycle and the freedom she gives me. Yeah baby motorcycles rock!

Great coverage of a topic all riders have certainly considered before. Fuzz…you’re quite in touch with things.
