Riding Nerdy: Finding Historical Markers

Do you like your motorcycle rides with a side of history-buff nerdiness? Well, then – locating and photographing historical markers might be right up your alley.

Surely I can’t be the only geek who likes to ride and likes to learn about the history of the places I pass through. Are you up for the informal challenge of doing some riding, taking some photos and maybe learning something along the way?

What are the rules and what do you win?

Nothin’ on both counts! Isn’t that great?

The informal challenge is nothing more than to get out and do some riding and share what you’ve found on your own blog. Easy-peasy.

Here are some websites that might help you find historical markers in your state:

  1. Great idea and links. It’s interesting to see that there are historical places very near where I live in Ormond Beach. Unfortunately, the Ormond Hotel, which is listed, is no longer there, it was truly magnificent but in great need of repair. There was a big debate over what to do but eventually they tore it down and replaced it with a luxury condo! Still sad about that.

      Thanks, DBB.

      Its a bummer to hear that such a neat place went the way of the Dodo for more condos :-/

      Hope you are inspired to get out there and find some more interesting places!

    I’ve actually thought about doing this (guess I’m a nerd too). Always looking for a reason to ride somewhere. I haven’t tried it yet. Closet thing I’ve done is to find some old building then trying to find the history on it. Interesting, old architecture seems to grab my attention quicker than most things.

      ::hi-five nerdy girlfriend:: 😆

      Yea, i’m a “reason” person, too. When things seem like a search or a puzzle, i’m all over it.

      Hope you get out there and ride. Nerdily, of course.

    What a cool idea? I’m sure it took you AGES to gather all those links. Thanks for the hard work. One of these days I’ll get to focus on fun stuff like riding again instead of stuff like power washing the patio, scrubbing the kitchen grout, making a new table runner, etc. Although at least that last one is sort of fun since I haven’t really sewn anything for ages. Anyway… thanks for the post. I’ll be nerdy just like you soon. 🙂

      I meant to say, “What a cool idea!” With an exclamation point, not a question mark. I love the idea! I wish I could get out there and find one today just to prove it. Of course, my bike is in another state at the moment…

      Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t so bad to find the links. I had my coffee, listening to some tunes, shirking off cleaning – the time goes by in a blink that way 😀

      I’ll be nerdy just like you soon

      Oh, you poor thing…
