Free Maps and Travel Guides – New for 2020

Looking for free paper maps by mail? This is the guide for you.

Though most people these days have a GPS, a paper map does come in handy. Mishaps take place, things get broken, and signals get lost. Not to mention, some folks just like using maps.

Thankfully, many states offer free state highway maps and travel guides by mail.

Today’s travel guide packets often arrive in your mailbox, with a highway map, a book or magazine, historical information and sometimes coupons for dinners or lodging. State tourism boards have upped their game!

Glad you guys find it useful!

I still firmly believe you get a better ride going when you can use a paper map coupled with a GPS. We really put this to the test in Italy. We used GPS when looking for something specific in a city like Milan. But each night, we broken out our ragged map & a highlighter and used that for riding each day. The “view” was so much greater for routing on the fly.

I had a bunch of these links saved. I was inspired to share them by soth – so thanks for the push!

Very useful. I love paper maps. It’s good to have a general sense of where you are and not rely on a voice without a head for directions.

I’ve also visited about 40 states here, and will be using maps as flooring material in my cottage (look up paper bag floors, you’ll see what I’m going to do with maps instead) and need all the free maps I can get! Thanks in advance!
