The Arrival: Medium Sears/JC Whitney Motorcycle Luggage Trunk

Last week I ordered a medium sized motorcycle luggage trunk from Sears. It arrived on Saturday.

Storage capacity on the medium trunk is listed as 31liters. It is big enough to put my dirt helmet in, close and lock it. When traveling, I currently use a Famsa 22 liter Art 710 tailbag on my Speed Triple, so once I get this box securely mounted, it should provide me with some extra, waterproof, lockable space. ::knocks wood::

The Maltese Cross emblem is pretty hokey. That is going to be covered up or removed.

I don’t recall ordering the gloss black version of the box and the receipt says flat black but, that’s okay, I guess. I kinda like the gloss. Maybe it will make me feel like a sassy Italian bird jetsetting around Milan on a candy-colored Vespa.

Next up – some creative mounting. I’m going to need help from one of my garage savvy friends in sorting out a good mounting bracket for the Speed Triple.

I agree about the Maltese Cross . . . someone needs to fabricate a FuzzyGalore logo for your new trunk 🙂

That was a fabulous price. I almost bought one when you mentioned it awhile ago. John thinks it would look funny on my Aero though …. so I’m still not sure.

What type of luggage are you using on the Aero now? I saw a pic or two (on the JCW page, i think) that had a box mounted on a cruiser. I thought it looked rather nice, actually. Go with your gut, though. Even at the bargain basement price of $33, if you don’t use it – it was too expensive.

For me, the waterproof-ness would be the best part. Every time we leave on a trip, we leave in the rain. Not monkeying around with rain covers that rip or flap would be so nice 🙂

I’d love a logo 🙂 Maybe one day i’ll have one made.

Locally I just use my “biker’s friend” roll bag (http://roadsidewonders.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/whitesferry.jpg) … it’s meant to use as a backrest, but I’m waaaaaay too short to use it that way. LOL

On longer trips, I’m usually set-up this way (http://roadsidewonders.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/airtransport16.jpg). The bag in the back has about 3 times the capacity as shown …. but as you mentioned, during rainy days I have to put a flappy and annoying raincover on it. When we go camping, I just keep bungie-cording things all over the damn place LOL

This one doesn’t look at all like the ones on the Sears site. Wonder what’s up with that…

Also wonder if the Sears trunks use a Givi (or other name brand) compatible mounting plate.

You’re right the box is shaped and molded differently than the one on the photo. I thought about it for a few days, deciding whether or not I should send it back to get what was actually printed on the receipt 🙂 It’s like I received a giant scooter box. I’m okay with that.

From reading around the web, there are several sources that say these boxes can be mounted on a Givi plate. I may have to bite the bullet and pop my other Givi e46 box off to find out. I hate doing it though. Its such a bitch to put back on and have it click on properly :-/
